Paris Jackson Opens Up About The Severe PTSD She Developed Because Of The Constant Paparazzi Stalking As A Child
During her one-on-one chat with Willow Smith on the latest episode of Red Table Talk , Paris Jackson opened up about a lot of personal things! With that being said, one of the topics she got candid about was her struggle with PTSD as a result of constantly getting stalked by the paparazzi as a child.
Paris revealed that 'I experience audio hallucinations with camera clicks as well as severe paranoia.'
As for how she's been coping with these symptoms of PTSD, the star shared that she uses a psychotherapy technique known as EMDR.
'It's always been pretty gnarly, my social anxiety,' she mentioned, adding that she's been attending therapy for 'a lot of things.'
One of these things is apparently the false perception of sounds.
'I'll hear a trash bag rustling and I flinch and panic. It's just standard PTSD.'
This is no surprise since Paris and her father, Michael Jackson , used to be the target of incessant media attention when she was just a kid and sometimes, the paparazzi would go too far just to snap a picture.
In an attempt to protect his children from all that, Michael would often make Paris and her two brothers wear masks in public.
Paris previously told Oprah Winfrey in another interview that, as a grown-up, she had realized that their dad did that so that when they went out without him, no one would know it's them and they could have a normal childhood.
Still, even today, Paris avoids going out during the day in order to avoid the photographers and she often has 'nightmares' as well since they haven't stopped following her while at airports and other public places.
'I do catch it affecting my personal relationships, especially romantic relationships. PTSD can affect pretty much every aspect of your life,' the 23-year-old added.
