Justin Timberlake Is A Doctor! - Justin Receives Honorary Doctorate At The Berklee College Of Music
According to a report from Page Six, Justin Timberlake just added another accomplishment to his already massive list of successes. This past weekend, the Berklee College of Music, one of the most prestigious in the country, honored the singer's contribution to music with a doctor of music degree at their 2019 commencement ceremony.
The 38-year-old said on his Instagram that "no dream is too big," and urged his followers to never stop chasing. Justin facetiously added, "trust me, I'm a doctor!" in all capital letters.
Likely similar to other students there, the Grammy winner celebrated with a bottle of wine, with the main difference being where it was consumed: on a private plane.
Back in March of this year, the ivy league school announced they had plans to honor stars like Alex Lacamoire, Missy Elliot, as well as Justin Timberlake for their contributions to music, whose effects have been seen all over the world.
Missy Elliot also took the opportunity to celebrate her honor at the school, urging fans online to "create your own lane," before going on to finish her remark with, "sincerely, Dr. Missy Elliott," likely in reference to Justin's last comment.
In the months coming up, Elliott and Justin will be honored yet again at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in June. Elliott, in fact, will be the very first female hip-hop icon to receive the honor.
In past interviews, Elliott said that not a lot of people are aware of all the songs she has written in the past two decades. She suggested the reasoning for why that's the case is because she's a woman. According to Nielsen Music and Billboard, as of 2017, Missy Elliott is the highest selling female rapper of all time.
There's no question that Missy has laid the foundation for women to succeed in the genre, and now there are multiple, including Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Azealia Banks. Another artist to make important contributions to that area is Lil'Kim. Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, has been a number one artist for decades, after first coming to prominence in the late 90s and early 2000s in the boyband, NSYNC.
