Stephen Colbert weighed in on the latest controversy surrounding Fresh Off The Boat castmember Constance Wu. Wu plays the character Jessica Huang and when she heard that the ABC sitcom had been picked up for a sixth season, her reaction was quite surprising to well…just about everyone. Wu immediately went to social media and fired off a series of profanity-laced tweets explaining her pain and anguish that the show was renewed. Stephen Colbert seemed just as perplexed as the nation to her response that many are describing as privileged, spoiled, and unappreciative.
Constance Wu tweeted the following when she heard Fresh Off The Boat was renewed.
“So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh.”
She followed the tweets with profanity.
Constance Wu’s tweets weren’t enough for her to pacify her own disappointment. She also left disparaging remarks on the show’s official Instagram page.
Stephen Colbert quipped, “Well, that will be a fun first day on set.”

Constance Wu starred in the Oscar-winning movie Crazy Rich Asians and some have speculated that she wanted to move from television to films full time.
Still, her reaction to the show’s renewal and saying she was crying over it didn’t receive a positive reaction in the rest of the nation.
Her comments came at a time when many actors and actresses, her fellow industry workers, are finding out if their shows will be renewed or canceled. One can only imagine how her comments were perceived by those who received the ax and are out of work.
Reports have suggested that Constance Wu doesn’t have the best attitude in the workplace either. Some say that she is difficult to work with and the remarks certainly didn’t help her dispel those rumors.
What do you think about Constance Wu’s tweets and her response to hearing Fresh Off The Boat was renewed. Do you agree with her explanation or do you think she was ungrateful? What did you think of Stephen Colbert’s comments regarding the controversy?
