Olivia Newton John’s Iconic Leather Jacket From Grease Sold For $234K At Auction, You Won’t Believe What Happened Next
A superfan of the classic 1978 movie musical Grease starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta recently purchased the iconic leather jacket that Newton-John wore at the end of the film for $234,200 at auction. But, instead of keeping it in his collection of memorabilia, the anonymous billionaire surprised Newton-John by giving it to her.
According to TooFab, the fan bought the jacket at a charity event last month that benefitted the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center. And, this past weekend, he surprised the Grammy-winner by returning it “ to its rightful owner.”
When Olivia Newton-John's iconic black leather jacket from the movie "Grease" sold for $243,200 last month, she probably thought it was gone for good. But the buyer, who described himself as her number one fan, had other ideas. https://t.co/qD4DbnrVSg pic.twitter.com/4CjP78g4it

In a video posted by Julien’s Auctions, the man surprised Newton-John with the leather jacket, but his face is blurred out so he can remain anonymous.
“The odds of beating a recurring cancer using the newest emerging therapies is 1,000 fold greater than someone appearing out of the blue, buying your most famous and cherished icon, and returning it to you, which is what I’m going to do right now,” said the anonymous buyer.
He went on to say that the jacket belongs to Newton-John and the “collective soul” of those who love her. He said it should not sit in a billionaire’s closet just so it can be used for country club bragging rights. And, that is why he humbly and respectfully returned it to the singer.
Getting emotional, Newton-John asked “are you serious?” The 71-year-old then gave the man a hug, thanked him, and told him the gesture was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for her.
The man gave Newton-John a large, pink package for her to open. And, as she ripped the pink and white tissue paper she said, “Where are you, my friend.”
The Hopelessly Devoted To You singer finally unwrapped the jacket, and said that she was so grateful, while telling the fan that he had given her the most beautiful present. Newton-John added that she wanted to display the leather jack at her Cancer Wellness and Research Center in Australia.
At the benefit auction, Spanx founder Sara Blakely reportedly bought the skin-tight satin pants that Newton-John wore with the leather jacket for $162,500. All of the pieces from the famous You’re The One That I Want outfit brought in $405,000 when it was all said and done. The entire auction brought in $2.4 million for Olivia Newton John’s cancer center.
