The situation around former Vice President Joe Biden and the accusations of sexual misconduct the politician has recently faced has left the U.S. political scene quite divided.
While some have expressed their disappointment at Biden and have claimed that they would never support his campaign in the upcoming election, others have decided to stand by him instead, arguing that the situation might be getting misrepresented to some extent.
Bill Maher is one of the most recent supporters of Mr. Biden in this regard.
The host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher has expressed a view that women should not wait for so long to report incidents of sexual misconduct, and that they should instead act right away.
Maher even took the opportunity to throw some jokes in his comments, pointing out the “similarity” between Biden and the TSA.
The comedian stated: “He came very close, this close, to saying he was about to run [for president], though we still don’t know if that’s true. We do know it’s true that his hands have been part of an exploratory committee for decades.”
He continued with: “You know what makes me feel gross and uneasy? A second Trump term. He’s not Harvey Weinstein or R. Kelly,” Maher observed. “He’s more like the TSA.”
Maher also added: “It seems like we hear a lot about these things years later. Like if it’s a real assault or something — we’re not talking about that. We’re talking about the guy who’s doing the Eskimo kisses and kissing the back of your head. And I get it that it doesn’t feel comfortable. I wouldn’t like it either. What could women do to move this process forward to, like, reacting in the moment as opposed to five years later? I know it’s sometimes tough if the person is your boss.”
Some have expressed their disappointment over both Biden and Maher, claiming that jokes have no place in discussions as serious as this one.
The recent accusations faced by Biden are indeed no laughing matter, but the politician has made no attempts to hide that he does not see the situation as anything too serious.
Meanwhile, some have questioned his prospects for the upcoming 2020 election.
However, according to certain predictions, Biden’s position may not have been negatively impacted at all.
If anything, the politician is enjoying quite the stable support right now, with many people actively expressing their desire to vote for him.
It would be interesting to see if that attitude remains when the actual primaries roll around next year, as a lot can happen until then.
