Avengers Star Chris Hemsworth Is Now Hollywood's Second Highest-Paid Star
2019 has been a big money year for Chris Hemsworth . The Australian actor starred in both Avengers: Endgame and Men In Black: International , and he earned a whopping $76.4 million for the two roles, which makes him the second-highest paid actor in Hollywood says Forbes Magazine .
The only actor who earned a bigger paycheck this past year is Dwayne Johnson , who has raked in $89.4 million thanks to films like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle .
Hemsworth - who lives in Australia with his wife Elsa Pataky and their three kids - told Variety that his big financial goal when he got into acting was to help his family and pay off the house. After starring in the Australian soap Home and Away for three years, Hemsworth went to Hollywood and fought to “make it.”
“I almost put too much pressure on myself,” says Hemsworth. “If I hadn’t taken it upon myself to take care of my family, I might have been more relaxed.”
Landing the role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has definitely been a game-changer for Hemsworth’s career. So far, he has played the character in seven films, and in Endgame he transformed into Fat Thor which Hemsworth called “hugely liberating and fun.”
Hemsworth wore a fat suit that weighed about 60 or 70 pounds - plus some additional body hair - and he says when he was in the suit he was the hottest he’s ever been.
“Physically, it was a good three hours in hair and makeup,” says Hemsworth. “Then the prosthetic suit, particularly for the shirt-off scene, that was a big silicone that weighed about 90 pounds. It was certainly exhausting. I had weights on my hands and ankles just to have my arms and legs swing differently when I shuffled along through the set.”
His costar Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) says that Hemsworth was fun to work with, and the actor wanted something new to do with the character after playing it the same way for so long. Thompson added that Hemsworth has “such dexterity as a talent,” and he is incredibly funny and has “really lovely energy.”
Hemsworth revealed that Robert Downey Jr. gave him a fair share of belly rubs, and he felt like Santa Clause because he had a few Avengers in his lap from time to time. He says that he enjoyed that version of Thor because it was so different than any other way he has played the character in the past.
Avengers: Endgame is currently available on-demand, and the BluRay and DVD will hit stores on August 13th.
