Christian Serratos Reveals Why Her Singing Voice Wasn't Included in Netflix's Selena Biopic
Just Jared reported this weekend that Christian Serratos ' new Netflix series, Selena: The Series , went to the number one spot after it dropped on the 4th of December. However, some people have wondered why her voice wasn't featured on the program, even though Christian, herself, is a singer.
During a conversation with Variety, the 30-year-old actress who appeared on The Walking Dead, shared why she chose not to sing. Christina claimed she was more than aware that people would rather have an actress who could sing Selena's parts, but on the other hand, she thought it would be preferable to have Selena's voice instead.
Christian "recorded quite a few songs," and initially it was supposed to be her or a hired actress (if it wasn't her who got the role) singing, but she thought it would be better if Selena's voice was used instead. Serratos says she is such a fan of Selena.
According to Serratos, who first came to prominence on The Walking Dead, fans of hers were confused by her decision, but she says she never wanted to be a "pop star." She just wanted to work in movies where she would have a chance to sing in them as well.
The actress says people told her that it was finally her chance to show she was capable of singing, but she decided it wasn't the best option in this particular case. "I don't want to hear me," Serratos explained, she wanted to hear Selena.
In other words, The Walking Dead alum insinuated she wasn't trying to make the series all about her; it's about Selena. Fans of the legendary singer-songwriter know Jennifer Lopez already starred as her once in the past.
Interestingly, Lopez never chose to sing in the movie either which went on to become her break-out feature. The film was a success with critics, audiences, and it was a hit at the box office.
The movie is based on the legendary singer, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who was murdered by the president of her fan club. Her disgruntled fan club president shot her in the back after an argument over hidden financial records.
