America’s Got Talent star Jackie Evancho was catapulted into child stardom when she appeared on the show at age 10. Her beautiful voice earned the classical singer the runner up title in season 5 of hit NBC show.
However, like so many child stars who are immediately thrust into the spotlight, Evancho soon discovered there is a dark side to growing up in the public eye. Especially in a social media dominated world.
The now 18-year-old is finally talking about the downside to having become famous as at such a young age. Even though being on AGT did wonders for her career professionally, the singer shared there was a scary, cynical side of being in the music business as a child.

On Wednesday, she used Facebook to open up about her experience, which is sadly one that many young stars live through far too often.
“There were men out there who wanted to hurt me. Some even went to the extreme of claiming they were priests and other disarming occupations to gain trust and easy access backstage, but clearly, their intentions weren’t so pure,” she wrote in the post that was captioned “TO NEW BEGINNINGS.”
Evancho did not go into detail about the potential stalkers or men who tried to get too close to her. What she did do was praise her parents for ensuring she had somewhat of a normal life, while she was pursuing her music dream.
Despite the negative aspects, the young woman is thankful for the many opportunities she has been given because of the show. After all, she gets to do what she loves, be a performer, and she would not trade that for the world.

Fans have been showing their support for Evancho since her post went live. It has been shared almost 200 times, over 2,000 people have reacted to it, and nearly 500 comments have flooded her message. There are of course some comments that are negative. However, for the most part, people are praising the young woman for speaking her mind and sharing her story.
The classical singer is all grown up and recently returned to America’s Got Talent stage performing on America’s Got Talent: The Champions. A young woman who is no longer staying quiet about her childhood emerged, confident, secure and with the same beautiful voice that got her noticed all those years ago.
