Halsey, who fans know is biracial, having a black father, opened up about being ‘white-passing’ due to her light skin color. That being said, the singer acknowledged that she is ‘not susceptible to the same violence’ as other people part of the community.
The artist who has been passionately leading protests in the aftermath of the senseless killing of George Floyd took to her platform to share a few more words via her Twitter account.
Halsey admitted that she is one of the people who enjoys white privilege: ‘im white passing. it’s not my place to say ‘we’ it is my place to help. i’m in pain for my family, but nobody’s gonna kill me based on my skin color. I have always been proud of who I am but it would be an absolute disservice to say ‘we’ when I am not susceptible to the same violence.’
She has been a very vocal part of the Black Lives Matter movement and always present at protests ever since Floyd’s terrible murder by a policeman.
The celebrity was also joined by her former boyfriend, rapper Yungblud, the two being reunited by their common goal.
The exes have been wearing protective masks since the COVID-19 virus is still very much a threat and also holding a sign reading Black Lives Mather as they march peacefully.
Halsey proved that she is ready to take leadership and put herself in the frontlines of the demonstrations even though that would put her in a lot of danger.
As you are probably aware, the police forces present at the protests have been using force and violence in the form of beating peaceful protesters with batons, as well as using tear gas and even rubber bullets.
In an IG Live video, Halsey can be heard screaming at the cops that ‘A true patriot is a person who’s not afraid of rebelling against their Government for the greater good of their fellow citizens. We are patriots, you are cowards!’
