The actress had a funny story to tell about the time Prince William presented her with a royal title and things did not go as planned. Emma Thompson was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday and told the host all about it!
As you may know, last year, William presented her with the Dame title, and as he pinned two badges on her blazer, the star made a pretty ‘inappropriate’ and ‘loud’ noise!
While on the talk show, Emma Thompson reenacted the moment with Ellen, showing her where Prince William pinned the badge.
She pointed to the host’s chest, prompting Ellen to react: ‘Oh, God.’
She went on to jokingly say that ‘it’s a little bit of a nipple moment, and you go, ‘Gosh, I was not expecting that.’ And then he pins the other one underneath. I am pretty low slung these days. So, both times it hurt. I made very loud and inappropriate noise in Buckingham Palace. It’s not a surprise, isn’t it.’
The talented actress received her damehood last year on November 7 and at the time, after the ceremony took place, she told Daily Mail that she had made Prince William blush!
‘I love Prince William, I have known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I cannot kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No, don’t!’ If you are first up, you have to be more formal on such an occasion, but he is looking wonderful and doing so well. He said, ‘This day is not about me, it is about you.’’
It’s always pretty funny when someone breaks royal protocol since the blue-blooded family is so formal and poised all the time.
Of course, it’s all about not going too far and it sounds like Dame Emma Thompson just used her charm and humor to make the situation more fun. No harm done!
