Producer Miranda Bailey Announces She’ll Be Pulling Out Of Production In Georgia Due To Anti-Abortion Laws
According to a report from The Wrap and Variety, Miranda Bailey, a famous producer, recently announced she was dropping out of the drama, Time Capsule, which is supposed to start shooting in the state of Georgia next month.
Her spokesperson said to a reporter from The Wrap that they chose to pull their business out of the state due to the recent news of the anti-abortion legislation bill being passed there. Initially, people such as Chad Fifer, Erwann Marshall, Brianna Hildebrand, as well as Todd Grinnell were in talks to join the set.
Bailey has a few credits, including Swiss Army Man, Don’t Think Twice, Untitled Amazing Johnathan Documentary, as well as Being Frank. As it was previously reported, the Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, signed a law barring pregnancy termination after the detection of a heartbeat, which typically means around six weeks.
The law is supposed to take effect on the 1st of January, 2020, however, there has been a massive backlash to the revelation of the bill, primarily from the entertainment industry, Hollywood especially.
Many media companies have suggested they won’t do business with the state if they pass the laws, including some of the biggest like Netflix, Disney, and a few others. Next, to Hollywood, Georgia is actually a very popular place for Hollywood filmmakers to make a movie. AMC’s The Walking Dead is just one among them.

According to the governor’s office, Georgia made $2.7 billion from movie productions last year. Some of the biggest companies have announced they might not work with them, including STX Entertainment, MGM, Sony, Showtime, CBS, Viacom, NBCUniversal, WarnerMedia, Netflix, AMC, Disney.
While many celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon, some on social media have suggested that the idea of corporations wielding political power is a serious threat to the future of American politics. If corporations don’t want a law passed, they can simply pull all of their business from the state, and therefore, wield unprecedented political power.
