Being praised by Oprah Winfrey, especially in such a way is definitely an honor. 18-year-old actress Yara Shahidi was in attendance at the premiere of BlacKkKlansman last night, and while there, she talked to ET, gushing about being called ‘the future’ by none other than Oprah!
Apparently, the TV personality sees so much in the young actress that she believes she could even be president one day if she so desired.
‘OK, coupled with the fact that I was in Barbados with my family, that was a peak life moment. I guess I just live in a state of constant awe, where I’m like, ‘How am I where I am?’ And I am just grateful that there truly is a community of people that are supporting me,’ Yara told the outlet exclusively.
She went on to say that ‘I feel like when my parents helped me into this industry through commercials and through TV, we always, dissolved the idea of competition especially amongst other women of color. And I feel like every day that I get to be here and see everyone together, it just proves that that is so right, and that we’re never in competition but the power of uplifting one another.’
And while Shahidi has already started to make a name for herself in Hollywood, the young star dreams of getting involved in politics as well.
She told ET that ‘I definitely want to be in a politics-adjacent kind of position. I want to be in a place in which I can implement that level of change, the president I do not quite know. I always think about how strange it would be that they’d be going back through the Instagram I had when I was 12. So that is a little eerie, but I definitely want to be [in Washington] D.C., yeah.’
