Mariah Carey kicked off the first meme for 2018 when she quipped between songs, “They told me there would be tea?” during her Rockin’ New Year’s Eve live performance. The comment drew attention as the performance followed up a previous fiasco where Mariah and her backing soundtrack were out of sync and she failed to sing live as the recording played in the background. During 2018 Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, Mariah performed, but wanted her hot tea due to the freezing temperatures. She announced that she would “just have to rough it with no hot tea” when the tea could not be found and the Internet went wild. Now, demand for tea is at an all-time high and people want Mariah Carey to launch her own tea line.
Mariah Carey was not oblivious to the headlines her comments made. She promptly shared a photo on Instagram where she was seen sipping tea from a white cup. Memes flooded social media sites like Twitter with pictures of frenzied assistants scouring the planet to find Mariah her cup of tea.
According to the latest reports and what’s being called the “Mariah Effect” demand for tea is on the rise making it an opportune time for the Grammy-winning singer who already has an established relationship where she sells products on HSN to launch her own tea line.
Mariah is already selling a line of tee-shirts (tea-shirts) that read “I was told there would be tea,” along with her own tea cups.

The image on the tee-shirt features a white tea cup emblazoned with Mariah’s initials. It doesn’t take a marketing genius to see that she could launch her own tea line with the MC logo on the package, as well as her own line of teacups, kettles, and other accessories. There really wouldn’t be a limit to how far Mariah could take her tea products and the chances of the products succeeding are good.
Some tabloids are suggesting that Mariah is already in the tea business, but at this time, that appears to be rumor and speculation. Mariah Carey has yet to confirm she’s going to create a line of tea to sell.
What do you think? Should she enter the tea business? Would you buy and drink Mariah Carey’s tea?
