Will Smith Has Big Shoes To Fill - Admits He Was Terrified To Portray Aladdin's Genie Due To Robin Williams Perfecting The Character!
The famous actor is well aware that this is a huge opportunity as well as a massive responsibility! After all, Robin Williams’ Genie in the original 'Aladdin' is iconic!
As fans of Disney and of Will Smith know already, he is the new Genie in the upcoming live action adaptation of Aladdin!
That being said, while backstage at the Latin GRAMMYs last night, Will chatted with ET, explaining how it feels to take on such a monumental role, already perfected by the late Robin Williams in the animated 1992 version.
Will admitted that ‘I was terrified doing the Genie after Robin Williams.'
He went on to share with the outlet that he feels more confident about it now because 'I found a lane that actually pays homage. It's my own thing, you know? So, I believe that people are going to love it. It is one of the greatest filmmaking experiences I have ever had. I've worked at most of the studios, and Disney really knows what they are doing. It was really a spectacular team that came together around a classic story. It is so spectacular, it is such a beautiful movie, and I cannot wait for people to see it.’
The live action Aladdin movie is set to be released on May 24, next year, so fans still have to wait quite a long time!
However, while still not showing much, (just like the first teasers for the live action versions for Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella) the teasers have been very promising!
Are you excited to watch the movie? What do you think about Will Smith taking on the role of the Genie?
