Will Jordan Peele Direct The Reboot Of Marvel's Blade Franchise?
According to a report from BET.com, just a couple of days after Mahershala Ali was cast as Blade in the upcoming reboot of Marvel's classic series, fans online began urging the studio to hire Jordan Peele to sit in the director's chair. Jordan has directed two major movies of the last two years, Get Out, as well as Us.
The Oscar winner, however, has chosen to take his name out of the potential candidates. Speaking with reporters from Rolling Stone, the director claimed he had no interest in directing the comic book franchise.
"I have a lot of stories to tell, and it just doesn't feel right," the Academy Award winner remarked. The director is currently producing a reboot of the classic Candyman series.
Ironically, in the past, Peele said he wanted to make new films and original stories, rather than contribute to reboots of pre-established brands.
As fans of the director know, he has found major success in film and television, including in both horror and comedy genres. His first big role came sixteen years ago when he was hired on Fox's Mad TV. He was on the series for approximately five seasons before finally leaving five years later in 2008.
He went on to create Key and Peele , which was a Comedy Central hit that was on the air for approximately three years. However, the production which made him a major star was Get Out, released two years ago in 2017, for which he was given numerous awards and nominations.
This news comes after it was revealed Wesley Snipes wouldn't get to reprise his role as Blade. On the star's Instagram, he congratulated Mahershala for getting it and said that's just the way the entertainment business worked.
Fans of the actor know he said in 2014 that he would definitely take on the role as Daywalker again if he was offered. Mr. Snipes starred in the first Blade in 1998, again in 2002, and then finally in 2004.
