Why Every 'Sons Of Anarchy' Fan Should Be Watching 'Mayans MC'
Sons of Anarchy built a dedicated fan base over the seven seasons it aired on FX. Kurt Sutter and co-producer Elgin James hope to continue that trend with Mayans MC , which has been crushing the ratings in its debut season . For those who have not given Mayans MC a chance, here are all the reasons every SOA fan should be watching the spin-off.
For starters, Mayans MC is part of the same world as Sons of Anarchy . The two shows exist in Sutter’s biker universe and are connected in many ways.
Besides the obvious biker elements present in both shows, Mayans MC has already featured a few cameos from the original show. This includes a surprise appearance from Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) mom, Gemma (Katey Sagal), and the return of SOA villain Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon).
With Sutter and James incorporating flashbacks into the show, there’s no telling which characters will pop up from time to time.
Characters aside, both shows also share similar plot lines. The setting and main characters may be completely different, but Mayans MC features just as much criminal activity and violence as the original series.
This includes selling drugs and getting involved in gun violence, themes that will likely stick with the series moving forward.
One of the biggest reasons why every SOA fan should watch Mayans MC is the similarity between the lead characters.
According to What Culture , both Jax and EZ (JD Pardo) want to find a way out of the biker world and live normal lives. Jax, of course, never reached this goal and ended up dying for the club.
We do not know if EZ’s journey will take him down the same path, but he is certainly finding it difficult getting his old life back.
The Season 1 finale of Mayans MC airs Tuesday night on FX.
