When MTV producers fired Teen Mom OG star Farrah Abraham last fall, they created a hole in the cast of the popular reality series, and ever since, fans have wondered who will step in to take her place. Now, it looks like a fan favorite will be joining the original teen moms – Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell, and Amber Portwood – and she has already started shooting scenes.
TMZ is reporting that Mackenzie McKee from Teen Mom 3 has officially joined the cast since the show parted ways with Abraham after her return to the adult entertainment industry.
Producers pitched McKee the idea while filming a two-hour special with her about her mom Angie Douthit’s battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
Let me tell you about this woman. Last night, we met to pray for my mom because she has stage 4 lung cancer. We cried out to God asking Him for a miracle. At the end of our prayer time, someone asked my mom to pray, so she did even though she is so tired and weak that it's hard for her to talk very long. She said one of the most beautiful and selfless prayers I've ever heard. While she spent some time praying for God to completely heal her, she spent most of her time praying for people who do not know Jesus personally. That they would desire to know Him and have a relationship with Him. Then she prayed for all of us in the room. That we would live the rest of our lives to be faithful servants of God, and share the gospel with people everyday. And she prayed for her whole family because she hates that we are suffering more than she hates that she is. I love you so much momma! #godisgreater #thereispowerinthenameofjesus #alwaysbekind #angiestrong #praylikeangieforangie @angiedouthit written by @whitterbug12
McKee agreed to step in and started shooting last week.
Fans have wanted to see the popular mom’s return ever since the network canceled Teen Mom 3 back in 2013 after only one season.
Just a couple of weeks ago, rumors started swirling that McKee would be Abraham’s replacement after she posted a pic on Snapchat of Teen Mom executive producer Morgan J. Freeman chatting with Douthit in what appeared to be the family’s living room.
McKee had also been dropping other subtle hints about her possible return, and fans quickly started to pick up on them. The first clue was when she posted a selfie on Instagram while drinking from a Starbucks cup and holding a green stopper stick.
Fans know that the stars of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 drink a lot of Starbucks during scenes because producers often pick up it up for them on their way to a filming location.
“Starbucks gives it away. Congratulations,” one fan wrote, and another commented, “I really really hope they bring you back to Teen Mom. Your family is amazing.”
Another hint was when she told her fans on Snapchat that they would be able to see her daughter’s fourth birthday party on something “larger than a phone screen.”
It makes perfect sense for McKee to join the OG cast since she has a built-in storyline. She got pregnant as a teenager, but she is now happily married to her baby daddy, Josh McKee, and they have three children. She has also created a new 90-day online fitness program, Body By Mac, after becoming a certified trainer two years ago.
McKee says that people love her program and it has been a hit. She has already sold over 4,000 in less than a year.
As for Abraham, when she found out that McKee will be replacing her, she said that wishes her all the best with the show, but she was going out on a high note.
New episodes of Teen Mom OG air Monday nights on MTV.
