Counting On fans know that the Duggar family is always growing. Right now, one member of the family is planning a wedding, another just had a baby, and two more are preparing to give birth this summer. But just because there are new Duggars constantly joining the family, that doesn’t mean fans have forgotten about those who have been in the inner circle for a while. Because of recent headlines suggesting Jessa Duggar is thinking about baby number three, some are wondering about her husband, Ben Seewald. So, just in case you need a reminder, here is everything you need to know about Jessa’s other half.
Seewald is the father of Jessa’s two boys – Spurgeon Elliot, 2, and Henry Wilberforce, 1 – and the couple has been together since 2013. Except for the occasional bouts of mom-shaming from fans, Ben and Jessa aren’t as controversial as her brother Josh or her sister and brother-in-law Jill and Derick Dillard. Fans may know a lot about Jessa because of her years on 19 Kids & Counting and the spinoff Counting On, but who is Ben Seewald?
According to Romper, he is a devout Christian who is not-surprisingly just as religious as the rest of the Duggars.
On the couple’s website Seewald wrote, “I believe that Jesus purchased my salvation with his blood, and by God’s grace and mercy, I am now a Christian soldier fighting under Christ’s banner. I want to follow where Christ leads me.”
The 22-year-old is strongly pro-life and says one of his greatest passions in life is standing against abortion. His stance on the subject is clear, with Seewald saying he believes abortion is murder, and he won’t stand by and do nothing. In a post on his website he wrote that he hopes to one day see abortion abolished and completely eradicated from the Earth.
Seewald is vocal about his political beliefs, but even though he is a conservative, he has spoken out in support of Black Lives Matter and the Take A Knee movement.
In addition to religion and politics, Seewald’s other big interest is his wife, Jessa Duggar. He says that he often watched her on her family’s TLC show before they met, and knew that he had to meet her. When he finally got the chance, Seewald realized that all the qualities he admired from a distance were true in person.
He could tell that Jessa was caring, mature, interested in the same things as he was, and hungry to learn. Ben Seewald says that his now-wife had a grasp of what was truly important in life, and after seeing her in real-life situations, he knew she wasn’t putting on an act.
New episodes of Counting On will return to TLC later this summer.
