Ever since Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood announced last November that she was pregnant, fans have been curious about the new man in her life, Andrew Glennon. He made his television debut on an episode in January, but there is more to Glennon than just being Portwood’s baby daddy. It turns out, he has a bit of a shady past.
Before Glennon met Portwood last summer on the set of Marriage Boot Camp, he had his share of hard times. According to Romper.com, Glennon revealed that after his mom battled breast cancer and his father died, he nearly died himself.
“Depression, drinking and throwing my heart through any open door. It nearly cost my life,” admitted Glennon last September in an interview.
The 33-year-old also had a battle with drugs, and in April 2009, police arrested him for possession of heroin, ecstasy, and other substances.
Court papers from the Superior Court of Los Angeles state that Glennon did unlawfully possess heroin and MDMA, and there was also a third count of being under the influence of the controlled substance CNS stimulant, which is medication used to treat ADHD.
At the time of his arrest, police held him on $10,000 bail, and when he pled guilty, the court placed him probation for three years for the heroin charge but dismissed the MDMA and CNS counts.
He was also ordered to attend psychiatric counseling and a drug treatment program, plus he could not use any narcotics or drink alcohol, and he had to pay court fines.
Glennon eventually broke his probation in the summer of 2010 when police arrested him for unlawfully possessing a firearm. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of unlawfully owning, possessing, purchasing, and receiving a handgun, one count of possession of a rifle by a felon, one count possession of a billy (a baton), and two counts of possession of metal knuckles.
This time, police arrested him and held him on $170,000 bail, but he pled not guilty, and prosecutors eventually dropped all the charges against him.
Then in March 2014, police arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol, and the courts eventually ordered him to serve 96 hours in the Los Angeles County Jail, and he had to pay court fines and fees.
Glennon says that he has been through a lot of pain in his life, and the death of his father put him into a tailspin.
He also had two ex-girlfriends file restraining orders against him, and all of this led Portwood’s first baby daddy, Gary Shirley, to be skeptical about her jumping into a relationship with Glennon.
Portwood met the cinematographer while she was appearing with her controversial ex Matt Baier on Marriage Boot Camp, and her was part of the crew. Just a couple of months after they met and started dating, Portwood discovered she was pregnant.
Amber Portwood and Andrew Glennon are expecting a baby boy this spring.
New episodes of Teen Mom OG air Monday nights on MTV.
