Where Are They Now: Moved; Moving; or Bluffing?

In the months leading up to the most recent presidential election, many Hollywood celebrities vowed vociferously and without equivocation to their adulating fans that should Donald Trump win the election then they would Most. Definitely. Be. Leaving. And, being that so many people cling to these stars’ every word, certainly they were to be taken seriously!
Take for example, Cher; the diva of sequins, sparkles, and big hair. Her fondness for Trump prompted her to memorably state via Twitter back in 2015 that “IF HE WERE TO BE ELECTED,IM MOVING TO JUPITER” (sic). So, given her substantial resources and connections, and that she has had almost 18 months to plan the event, one would expect to be gazing through a telescope at her gigantic mansion in the clouds…of Jupiter. Well, maybe not. Perhaps by next election she’ll have made the move?
And what about comedienne Chelsea Handler? Ms. Handler was pretty adamant in the run up to the election that she would be moving either to Spain or Canada should Trump prevail. Now that the inauguration has come and gone, a cursory check of celebrity headlines indicates that she has made no such move and instead has vowed to stand and fight. Should her fans take her most recent vow of resistance with the same degree of seriousness as her vow to move? Perhaps only if the vow was issued via a press release from Jupiter!
Of course, no one can forget Jon Stewart’s witty, but clearly serious, pronouncement at the 2015 Emmys, of his intent to consider escaping the surly bonds of earth via rocket ship to another planet. Alas, his consideration of his escape has resulted in getting him no closer to moving to another planet, much less even placed him in low earth orbit for the duration of the Trump presidency. Plainly plans need to be flexible AND achievable.
There are, no doubt, some number of celebrities that have indeed moved abroad in accordance with their fears and distaste of the political climate. They join the growing number of Americans who, since 2008, have been clamoring to get out of dodge for similar reasons. Indeed, as Jon Stewart went on to say in that 2015 Emmy speech, “…clearly this planet has gone bonkers”. Yes Jon, it has, and no one is bluffing about that!
