It is starting to get extremely difficult to keep up with all the ways that former Counting On star Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard manage to upset their fans. At this point, it seems every photo the couple posts on social media seems to spark controversy, and their recent Valentine’s Day pic was no different.
This time it had a little something to do with money and alcohol. Did the couple decide to stay in and drink to celebrate the holiday?
Duggar posted a photo of Dillard holding what looks like a wine bottle while he prepares their dinner table for an intimate steak dinner, despite the family’s strict anti-alcohol policy.
Duggar also included a caption that gave her husband a shout-out for cooking the special meal.
The backlash began immediately, with one fan questioning if Dillard was holding a bottle of alcohol, but a second quickly responded by saying that it was OK because Jesus turned water into wine.
Others backed the couple up by saying it was a bottle of sparkling grape juice and not an alcoholic beverage.
But, if it was wine, it wouldn’t come as that much of a shock because Duggar has been consistently breaking her family’s rules in recent months.
Back in November, she revealed a nose piercing and a henna tattoo. Then she changed up her wardrobe by getting rid of her long dresses and instead opting for tight jeans, short skirts, and high heels.
Another issue fans had with the most recent pic was the fact that Dillard didn’t take his wife out to a restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Some called him a cheapskate, while others questioned why they never seem to get out of the house for a date.
Even though it seemed sweet to some that he cooked his wife dinner, others thought Duggar deserved a night out away from their own kitchen table.
Of course, the couple can never win. When they did go out a couple of months ago, fans got mad because they were spending money after trying to raise cash on a GoFundMe page.
No matter what they do, fans will no longer be able to watch them do it on TV. The couple will not be part of the upcoming season of Counting On, which premieres Monday, February 26th on TLC.
