Wendy Williams has struggled with drug addiction in the past, but she is not the only survivor in her family. The talk show host opened up about her own son, Kevin Hunter Jr.’s battle with the harmful substances.
Williams gave an interview to ET not too long ago, telling all on how it felt to watch her teen son struggle with addiction.
‘Our son, three years ago, he’s 17 now, he just graduated from high school, he’s leaving for college in September, but three years ago he smoked K2. Now, this is a drug that we see on the news, people are walking around like zombies,’ she revealed.
According to the TV personality, the drugs almost transformed them into strangers, and that terrified the worried mother.
He had become someone she could no longer recognize and it happened fast as the K2, also known as synthetic cannabis, affects one’s brain immediately.
Wendy was not afraid to also get candid about her own struggle with cocaine addiction for about a decade!
‘I was a functioning addict. I’d come to work on time, and walked in and all my co-workers, including my bosses, knew, but instead of firing me, I would just grab my headphones and arrogantly walk into the studio, dare them to fire me because I was making ratings,’ she told the outlet.
Thankfully both she and her son are past that.
The woman and some family members also started The Hunter Foundation, which is supposed to aid with the solution seeking to substance abuse in many communities.
Not too long ago, she also launched a campaign named ‘Be Here,’ set to help families win the battle with drug abuse.
