If for some reason you are interested in becoming part of the Duggar family, just know that you should be prepared to answer a ton of questions. Counting On fans somehow managed to find the infamous pre-courtship questionnaire that family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar gives potential suitors and they shared it on the Free Jinger website.
In Touch Weekly is reporting that there are 423 questions and they include topics like parenting, women, and homosexuality. Sample questions include – “Do you feel women have a voice and are encouraged to speak their opinion?” and “Have you ever been exposed to homosexuality? If so, explain the extent and circumstances.”
Of course, people had to give their opinions, and many thought it wouldn’t be difficult to fake ideal responses to the questions. One fan wrote that you could tell what kind of answer they were looking for just by how they worded the questions.
Another responded that lying would be easy, and anyone “halfway smart with a taste of the right vocabulary would be able to pass with flying colors.”
In addition to answering hundreds of questions, courting couples must also follow strict rules, and over the years fans have gotten the chance to watch six of the Duggar kids go through the process on 19 Kids & Counting and the spinoff Counting On. The family takes their version of dating very seriously because the purpose is to eventually get married, so there are a lot of do’s and don’ts.
Jim Bob must approve of all courtships, so before a suitor approaches one of his daughters, they must go through dad first. After a young man shows interest, Jim Bob will vet him to make sure he has the values a Duggar girl requires.
Couples cannot go out on dates without a chaperone, and that usually means at least one younger sibling will be with them wherever they go. The only physical contact that Jim Bob and Michelle allow are side hugs, with front hugs and kissing being completely off limits. Duggar girls save their first kiss (and everything else) for their wedding day.
Courting couples cannot hold hands until they are engaged, and dad and mom monitor all communication between the two – including Skype calls, texts, and Facetiming.
Another rule is that the girls must dress modestly, which means they will cover shoulders, cleavage, and thighs. Michelle says that this prevents distractions and “keeps the relationship pure.” Throughout the dating process, they must also say no to any kind of alcohol, so they keep their heads clear.
The Duggar family returns with new episodes of Counting On – which will most likely feature the courtship of Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson – later this summer on TLC.
