On Friday evening, Blink 182’s drummer, Travis Barker, found himself in a car crash in Calabasas, California. Barker’s black Mercedes collided with a school bus.
According to a report from TMZ, Travis, 42, was making a left turn along with the bus when the two vehicles subsequently collided.
The police who spoke with reporters from TMZ, claims the bus, thankfully, didn’t have any school children in it at the time. Representatives speaking on the behalf of the LA County Sheriff’s Department haven’t spoken to any publication thus far.
However, TMZ reports that Barker’s 14-year-old son, Landon Asher, was in the car along with him, and the impact of the accident was enough for the airbags to go off.
Barker’s other child, Alabama Barker, 12, wasn’t with her family at the time. Witnesses at the scene claim that while Barker didn’t look injured at all, he did appear “dazed.”
Nevertheless, it’s good to hear no one was hurt in the car accident, unlike the terrible tragedy in 2008, when a plane went down near Columbia SC, resulting in burns over 65% of Barker’s body. Four others on the plane, unfortunately, passed away.
It’s another unlucky accident for Mr. Barker, and at a bad time, as the acclaimed drummer has been coping with health issues lately. Back in June, his band had to cancel their dates in Las Vegas after he underwent blood transfusions for blood clots in his arm.
Reportedly, Mr. Barker is dealing with a staph infection and a skin infection called cellulitis. And on Monday, Barker released a video detailing his road to recovery.
In the video, his doctor told him that the blood clots weren’t deep enough to spread to his lungs. However, drumming would make it worse if he continued to perform, so taking time off was a necessity.
Blink-182’s next show is for Riot Fest on the 14th of September, Chicago, Illinois.
