Queen Toya Wright stuns at the baptism of her godson, but like most of the things she does, the moment quickly became political or controversial.
Toya shared a few pictures where she is looking gorgeous in a Habesha dress at the traditional Eritrean ceremony for eight-month-old Cruz Christian Williams.
Toya shared a very emotional note with her godson that read: “As your Godmother, on this special day, I am honored and feel blessed to be a part of your future. I love you @bluescruzie best wishes on this day and always. Nanny Toya”
She continued: “Today was my godson’s christening. It was beautiful! I’m Feeling like the queen that I am in my Habesha dress…I love Ethiopian & Eritrean clothing. So beautiful! #cruzgodmother.”
Toya also spoke about her dress by writing: “Today was my godson’s christening. It was beautiful! I’m Feeling like the queen that I am in my Habesha dress…I love Ethiopian & Eritrean clothing. So beautiful! #cruzgodmother.”
Some said Toya is not a member of the Ethiopian Orthodox church and should not wear the attire.
One fan defended her: “On behalf off, all habesha people thank you for honoring our beautiful culture. Why are you so bitter? The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is open to anyone who chooses to praise God. Don’t say “we want not part of you” speak for yourself because I as an Ethiopian, do not take offense to someone being an Orthodox.”
Another commenter stated: “Just imagine if our woman started dressing like this again we do not even realize how Royal we look we rather walk around here looking all fake and plastic with cheapest fashion Nova clothes on. It is probably a baptism name. For example; mine is wolete sabhat. And she does not have to be Ethiopian to be Ethiopian Orthodox. I am disappointed to see you use religion as a reason to be rude.”
A third person claimed: “You killed it in our traditional attire. And your makeup is flawless. Toya dammit if I do not look at the name I swear I think you are your daughter.”
Toya has a lot of big moves lined up in the upcoming months.
