Fatima Ali just confirmed the sad news that her cancer is back. Doctors diagnosed the former Top Chef contestant with Ewing’s sarcoma in 2017 and declared the cancer gone earlier this year. Unfortunately, not only is the cancer back but Ali also confirmed that she has a year left to live.
Ali announced the heartbreaking news in a personal statement this week. The celebrity chef revealed that doctors detected the cancer in her femur bone and left hip. Even if Ali undergoes intense chemotherapy, oncologists only give her a year before the end.
“I was looking forward to being 30, flirty, and thriving. Guess I have to step it up on the flirting. I have no time to lose,” Ali explained in the statement.
According to Bravo TV, Ali wrote that she is making the most of the time she has left and plans to travel the world eating at every restaurant she can manage. She is also going to make amends with a few of her enemies and will spend plenty of time with family members and loved ones.
Ali ended the note by admitting that she always feared being average, but she now wishes the rest of her days are uneventful.
After publishing the essay, Ali took to Instagram and expressed thanks to all of her fans for their support over the years.

Dear friends, I have seen @cheffati grow and blossom every day I walked into the @bravotopchef kitchen. I have seen Fatima’s ambition sharpen over weeks of competition, seen her soar along with all of you. Most of you will read Fatima’s writing for the first time in this @bonappetit piece. Since her diagnosis I have been fortunate enough to get to know her deeper and in a new light. Over these months, I have come to know her family. Her mother has shown me her older writing which is just as poignant. I am pleased to share my friend’s story with you all today. I am so proud of her. I can tell you that in these months I have not only seen her continue to find her voice, but been inspired by her exponentially. I have gotten to know most of her family and in them I see my own. I was in the hospital with her the morning she had surgery months ago and witnessed her courage. The day after my @nytimes piece came out, I went to see her, and she cheered me on by holding my hand from the hospital bed, assuring me I had not flayed myself in vain. I was with her last night as she went in for radiation and she still turned back to smile at her mother and me when the nurse with the wheelchair came. I hope that this year brings her as much as she can hope for. You’ve said on the show that growing up I inspired you. But Fati, now, it’s you who inspire me. Everyday. I love you Fati. Link in bio.
In light of the devastating news, Ali’s former co-contestants on Top Chef have also voiced their support in her fight against cancer. This includes heartfelt notes from Joe Flamm, Tyler Anderson, Joe Sasto, Brother Luck, Chris Scott, Adrienne Cheatham and Bruce Kalman.
The show’s host and executive producer Padma Lakshmi also gave a shout-out to Ali on social media and opened up about her friend’s cancer battle during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen earlier this year.
