Today is International Kissing Day and fans around the world are sharing their favorite movie kiss. The kiss is celebrated as a way of greeting, showing love and concern for someone, as well as a romantic expression of love. It is the latter that is often memorialized in film and even MTV has a “Best Kiss” category in the MTV Movie Awards.
As LGBTQ rights have become mainstream, there has been a shift in the most popular and iconic kiss with many same-sex kisses winning the title as most memorable.
The MTV Movie Awards have given the top honor to several same-sex couples multiple years in a row. The 2018 winners for best kiss were Keiynan Lonsdale and Nick Robinson for Love, Simon.
In 2017, same-sex on-screen couple Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome won the prize for their roles in Moonlight
The 2016 winners were from Pitch Perfect 2 and consisted of Adam Devine and Rebel Wilson locking lips.
