Regular viewers of The Real are well aware that one of the co-hosts, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, has always wanted to be a mother sometime in the future. Recently, the former girl group star tied the knot with Israel Houghton and spoke candidly about their plans for a family.
However, their decision has come with some problems. In addition to discussing her fans’ obsession with her fluctuating weight since The Real‘s debut five years ago, the star revealed that she and Israel haven’t been able to have kids.
“Everyone doesn’t get pregnant right away,” the co-host explained, “and I think for myself, I thought it would happen easily for me.” Due to Adrienne’s “chubby face,” as she described it, fans often ask her if she’s pregnant on social media.
Following her explanation of the struggles of conception, the star said the whole ordeal is tiring and “really discouraging.” Bailon admitted she looks back on herself and realizes that growing older came quickly.
She remembers the day when she was 19. Check out the video below to see her explain her struggle:
While it’s exceedingly difficult for women to get pregnant as they grow older, it’s possible Adrienne still has a chance yet. Earlier in the year, Daniel Craig and his wife, Rachel Weisz, were finally able to conceive, and Rachel is in her late 40’s.
Following women’s liberation from traditional social conventions of the past, primarily the role as a homemaker, girls and young women are able to choose what they want to do with their life, and put off pregnancy until they’re much older.
However, it isn’t always easy for them to get pregnant when they’ve aged. As it was previously reported, Carrie Underwood revealed she had three miscarriages within the span of three years. Fortunately, she and her husband, Mike Fisher, finally made it work.
