What may be the best new show in the competitive television genre is coming to Fox in January. The Masked Singer premieres on January 2, 2019, from 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. Based on an Asian series, The Masked Singer will feature award-winning singers competing on stage while wearing outrageous costumes. Nick Cannon will host the show and the judges' line-up includes Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke.

Fox released a synopsis of the show, describing it as "who sung it" and not a "who done it."

"With each performance, the host, panelists, audience, viewers and even the other contestants are left guessing who is singing behind the mask. Ranging from Grammy Award winners to legendary athletes, and everything in between, the singers may attempt to throw the crowd off of their scent, while keen observers might pick up on tiny clues buried throughout the show. One singer will be eliminated each week, ultimately revealing his or her true identity. It’s not a “whodunit,” it’s a “whosungit!"

As each celebrity is in disguise the 12 celebrities are identified by their costumes. Competing in the first season of The Masked Singer  will be Raven, Deer, Peacock, Bee, Rabbit, Hippo, Pineapple, Alien, Unicorn, Lion, Poodle, and Monster.

As the show already has an international following, fans are already following the American version of The Masked Singer on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The series hasn't even begun and music fans are watching previews trying to pick out the artists.

Musical competition shows are very popular but there is an early indication that The Masked Singer will be a fan favorite and a rating success. Besides the fact that Nick Cannon has always earned praise for his hosting abilities and the judges' panel shows that it will be entertaining, the idea of mystery celebrities singing in giant, silly costumes is an entertaining format suitable for the entire family.

Some are already guessing that artist such as Beyonce and Carrie Underwood may be on the show.

Each week, one celebrity will leave the show, revealing his or her true identity on the way out.

I already am trying to figure out who Lion is. The concept for this show is great, and the costumes look amazing. Hopefully, the premiere tonight will be as good as the promos look.
