The Handmaid’s Tale returns for its second season in April 2018, and Hulu has released the first trailer. The award-winning series stars Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne, also known as Offred, and is based on the 1985 dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood. The first season was based on the novel and there was plenty of room for interpretation, but the second season should bring more independent plots as the book’s story was essentially completed in the first season.
In the book and at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale season 1, the viewer/reader was left wondering what happened to June. The book never fully explained if June made it to safety or what her life was like when she was whisked away trusting only the word from Nick that things would be okay.
In the book, we know that June made it out because her story or “tale” was told. But exactly what happened was left to the imagination. Now that Hulu has moved past the story into the second season, the future of the series is great. Hopefully, Hulu will find a long-running success story with The Handmaid’s Tale and there will be many seasons to come.

The trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale is going viral and many people have expressed great anticipation for the second season’s premiere. One thing that is depicted is June/Offred wearing one of the masks over the lower half of her face.
This is similar to the mask Emily wore when she was taken away for her trial. It’s unclear whether June is dreaming, was taken away to stand trial for her crimes, or if this was part of an escape plot orchestrated by Nick.
Because June was taken away from her child and husband against her will, The Handmaid’s Tale deals with a complicated love triangle. June loves her husband Luke, but after living in Fred Waterford’s house she has bonded with Nick. Their relationship seems real, but the question remains what would happen if she and Luke were reunited.
Though June has used her sexuality to get closer to Waterford and help the resistance, the relationship between Nick and June was birthed in survival, yet adds an element of excitement and passion to the series.
