The Legends of Tomorrow have finally found someone to fill one of the empty seats on their timeship, the Waverider. It was announced today that actor Keiynan Lonsdale, who plays Wally West, aka Kid Flash, on The Flash, will officially move to the spinoff as a main cast member.
Lonsdale first joined The Flash in 2015 as the previously unknown son of Detective Joe West and sister to love interest Iris West.
Soon, Lonsdale’s character gained speedster powers of his own and donned a costume, with the superhero nickname Kid Flash.
Unfortunately, the producers of The Flash seemed unsure what to do with Wally after that, as having two speedsters (plus Wally’s love interest, aka Jesse Quick) was apparently too much for them.
Lonsdale has spent much of the current season missing in action, although that could’ve been a calculated move in advance of his transfer over to Legends.
That series recently lost two cast members when actor Victor Garber departed for a return to Broadway and Franz Drameh’s Jax was written out of the show.
Ironically, Lonsdale first came to the attention of franchise producers when he auditioned for Drameh’s role, only to be given the role of Wally West instead.
Kid Flash had a quick appearance in the Legends series premiere last fall as Central City’s primary protector while the Flash was trapped in the speed force.
“We loved working with Keiynan in our series premiere…so when his character stepped away from Flash to go on walkabout…we knew that Wally West would fit in perfectly on Legends,” said executive producer Phil Klemmer.
Lonsdale will make his debut when Legends returns from hiatus on Monday, February 12 at 8/7c (temporarily taking over Supergirl‘s usual timeslot). However, Kid Flash won’t become an official member of the Waverider crew for another two episodes.
