'The Bachelor' Creator Teases 'Shocking Announcement' - Could There Be Dualing Bachelors?
It was announced on Good Morning America Thursday morning that Arie Luyendyk Jr. would be The Bachelor for the upcoming 22nd season. And, Bachelor Nation responded with a question...who?
Luyendyk Jr. hasn’t been on the show since 2012 when he was the runner-up in Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette . For many fans, he wasn’t that memorable.
After the announcement of Luyendyk Jr., creator Mike Fleiss tweeted that he wasn’t done with the “shocking announcements.” According to multiple sources, this tweet led many to believe that this season may feature dueling bachelors.
This tactic was used once before. Back in 2015, there were dueling bachelorettes. Producers let the male contestants choose between Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson in the first episode.
Bristowe ended up getting the most votes, and she ended up giving the final rose to Shawn Booth. The couple are still engaged.
Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation as to who would be crowned the next Bachelor . Most thought it would be Peter Kraus , who was the runner-up in Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette . But Fleiss put that rumor to rest via a Wednesday morning tweet.
Apparently, Luyendyk Jr. has been a possibility for a couple of years. According to People , he was even selected to be The Bachelor before Chris Soules .
“It’s been an ongoing conversation through the last couple of years,” said Luyendyk Jr. “The timing was never right…. I’m not nervous. Now that I’ve had some time and distance away from it, it feels like the feeling I had before I went into it the first time. I think sometimes when you’re on The Bachelorette , and you jump right into being The Bachelor , for me, it would’ve been too soon.”
Even though Bachelor fans may not be too thrilled with Luyendyk Jr.’s selection, Maynard definitely approves. She called Luyendyk Jr. “a gorgeous man with a heart of gold” and “a great kisser.”
But, will he be the only man that the twenty-five ladies will have to choose from? Stay tuned to Fleiss’s Twitter page to find out!
Season 22 of The Bachelor will premiere on ABC in January 2018.
