The producers of Teen Mom OG caused quite the controversy when they decided to replace Farrah Abraham – who they fired last fall – with Are You The One? star Cheyenne Floyd for the upcoming season.
Fans are not happy with the choice, and Radar Online is reporting that cast members Amber Portwood, Catelynn Lowell, and Maci Bookout are outraged with the casting decision. But, it looks like MTV is moving forward with Floyd, and a source says they have already started test-shooting with her and baby daddy Cory Wharton.
However, it looks like MTV can still back out if Floyd “doesn’t fill the big hole” that Abraham left. According to the insider, “They haven’t paid [Floyd] yet. And, they have not signed a contract at this time.”
Ashley’s Reality Roundup first reported that MTV had replaced Abraham with Floyd, and the decision has made Portwood and her co-stars very unhappy. Radar’s source says that the original cast has been doing the show for a decade, and they aren’t fans of bringing a newbie on permanently when she has never done the show before.
A second source says that the cast feels it is “stupid” to bring people in from outside the franchise when they could have easily brought the casts of Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 together. They think that move would have made more sense since they all get along.
MTV fired Abraham after she appeared on an adult website, but she says she has “no reaction” to the casting news because she no longer watches the show. She says that she has moved on and the “show was done” when she left.
The 25-year-old Floyd and her baby daddy – who starred on The Challenge – are the parents of a 1-year-old daughter named Ryder. An insider says that their relationship is nowhere near as happy as they make it seem on social media, so they would be a good fit for Teen Mom OG. But, the fact that she was never a teenager mother makes MTV’s decision to cast her a bit of a head-scratcher.
If MTV does still have an out when it comes to this casting choice, it is possible they will take it. Fans have let the network know that they aren’t happy with the decision, and many have said they have never heard of her, even though she did appear on another MTV show.
Plus, there were two other options that the network could have gone with that seemed to be a much better fit. Ryan Edwards wife Mackenzie Standifer could have stepped right in since she is married to an original cast member and she had a baby in her teens.
Or, they could have gone with Mackenzie McKee from Teen Mom 3 because she is a favorite among fans.
Will producers change their mind? Fans will just have to wait and see.
New episodes of Teen Mom OG will return to MTV later this year.
