Behind Stassi Schroeder’s beautiful image and persona lies a flaw that many people struggle with: psoriasis. The 29-year-old took to her Instagram Story recently to reveal her dermatological woes and reminded her fans that if anyone else has the same problem, “(she’s) with you.”
She captioned her post with, “if you suffer from Psoriasis, you ain’t alone. S*it sucks.” For the first time, Stassi discussed her condition during an April 2017 episode of The Doctors.
It was there where the reality star opened up regarding the number of medical professionals she spoke with and how receiving adequate treatment felt like it was next to impossible.
Stassi said the steroid creams helped, but whenever she gets stressed out the condition flares up. Additionally, alcohol consumption plays a crucial role in its resurgence.
She said, “every time I have red wine at night,” she wakes up the next morning waiting for the condition to rear its ugly head again. The event planner admitted she didn’t want to film her reality show last year because of the disease – which affects millions of Americans every year.
Stassi said last year “was the worst,” and it was a brutal summer. Not only was she stressed out because of the demands of her career, but it showed up on her face in the form of itchy red patches.
According to a report from The Mayo Clinic, Psoriasis is a condition which “speeds up” the cycle of life of skin cells. Skin cells duplicate at an abnormal rate which the body can’t handle.
The result is flaky, itchy, red skin on the top layer. Unfortunately, for those who have the condition, there isn’t a cure, and it has to be managed through dealing with stress appropriately, as well as working on one’s physical fitness and meeting nutritional needs.
