Star Wars Fans Organize a Memorial Gala for Carrie Fisher

As any really dedicate fandom, or perhaps more than any other, the Star Wars community has the power to move mountains for the one thing they care about the most.
They can organize and plan better than the Rebel Alliance!
After Carrie Fisher Shocked the fans with her untimely and unexpected passing, one particular fan decided to honor her by organizing a gathering at the upcoming Celebration Orlando – and so, they started a Facebook event page that brought together thousands of fans.
The convention is all about Star Wars, and the loss of Fisher will be felt acutely at the event.
This is how “Drowning in Moonlight,” a memorial gala in honor of Carrie Fisher came to be.
Even the name is very much significant because it is taken from Carrie Fisher’s book Wishful Drinking. She wrote: “I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra.”
The memorial is set to honor her life and legacy and it is not only limited to her most iconic role as Princess Leia. The dress code is a black tie optional dress-up gala, and cosplay is encouraged.
Tickets to the memorial include music and dancing, door prizes, a Carrie-themed drink menu, fan merchandise, and a live on-stage unified podcast celebrating Fisher and featuring Star Wars podcasters.
All proceeds and profits from the event will go to The Midnight Mission, a cause Fisher supported. The fans behind Drowning in Moonlight chose this charity because it hasn’t received as much public acknowledgement as Fisher’s other causes after her passing.
The gala is going to take place during the first day of Celebration Orlando, April 13, at 7:30 P.M. at the Rosen Centre Hotel.
