It’s 1-0 for Spongebob! It looks like social media had a field day making fun of Maroon 5’s performance during the Super Bowl halftime show, claiming that they preferred if the cartoon headlined it instead!
As you know by now, the band took over the field at the Super Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia earlier tonight but it seems like fans were more excited over a possible Spongebob appearance at the big event.
That being said, they made it very clear on their respective social media platforms and did not hold anything back.
Their wish did come true when the cartoon character opened for Travis Scott!
While he performed ‘Sweet Victory,’ since his moment was pretty short, the fans were not entirely satisfied.
Furthermore, many tweeted that they would have rather had Spongebob headline the show instead of Maroon 5! Yikes!
One user even went as far as to hold a poll of sorts, asking the viewers to retweet in support of Spongebob and like for Maroon 5, and the animated sponge won!

‘All you goofy goobers out there are not alone in thinking that Spongebob was robbed during his short appearance, which also featured a cameo by Squidward,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘We want more Spongebob, and we want it now!’
Here are a few of the other hilarious tweets about Spongebob stealing the show from Maroon 5: ‘How could they tease us with Spongebob’s Sweet Victory and not give it to us. Damn you NFL!!’ / ‘You promised these people Sweet Victory, but all I saw was…Cheapy the Cheapskate.’ / ‘#SuperBowl That’s all Spongebob gets are you serious? I’m calling my lawyer.’ / ‘More Spongebob less Maroon 5.’
