Kathryn Dennis is opening up about her history with domestic violence. Amid her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy, Thomas Ravenel’s, sexual assault scandal, the Southern Charm star revealed that she has had firsthand experience dealing with domestic violence.
Dennis, who had two children with Ravenel, revealed that the abuse happened sometime in the distant past. The reality star did not dish any specifics about what happened, but she did talk about how she felt before and after the incident.
Dennis admitted that she never thought she would find herself with someone who abused her, and after it happened, she was left broken and afraid. Fortunately, Dennis was able to get past her fears and is not afraid to share her story.
“I am a domestic violence survivor who’s not afraid anymore,” Dennis shared on social media.
Dennis also admitted that she kept the domestic violence incident a secret and that she could never escape the harm it did to her and her relationships. Before she knew it, Dennis realized that her self-esteem had taken a major hit and she started thinking that she was the problem.
Shortly after the post, Dennis shared a few quotes about domestic violence with the hope of inspiring other women to tell their stories.
The revelations come during a time when Dennis’ ex-boyfriend is facing serious charges of assault and battery. Police arrested Ravenel a few weeks ago after his former nanny came forward and claimed he sexually assaulted her in his own home.

Ravenel eventually posted bail and is awaiting the next step in his case. He will not be appearing on the new season of Southern Charm.
Dennis did not say whether or not Ravenel abused her. The two reportedly signed a confidentiality agreement when they split, which might prevent her from talking about him negatively in public.
