Sophia Bush shocked a lot of fans when she decided to leave Chicago PD following its fourth season. How, the actress claims she just had no choice but bail since, according to her, she would endure endless abuse on set.
Us Weekly reported that while a guest on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Bush got candid about that experience, saying ‘I quit because, what I have learned, I have been so programmed to be a good girl and a workhorse and a tugboat that I’ve always prioritized tugging the ship for the show, for the group, over of my own health.’
Initially, when she left, speculations were saying that the reason was Jason Beghe’s ‘inappropriate behavior,’ but now, the star clarified that she did it simply because the working conditions were way too harsh to deal with anymore.
She went on to recall that ‘My body would react to something and I was like, ‘That is not a big deal. It isn’t great, but it is not a big deal.’ The reality was that my body was falling apart because I was really unhappy. Our writers were here in L.A., and were like, ‘The snow looks so cool on camera.’ And we were like it is literally 30 degrees below zero.’
Bush told the host that because of such weather conditions in which they had to work, people on set would be ‘sick all the time.’
She blamed the ‘culture’ that protected the wrong methods of just getting the job done no matter what the risks were and no matter how ‘physically hard’ it was on the actors.
For the longest time, Sophia ‘programmed [herself] to tolerate the intolerable.’
However, she finally reached her limit after four seasons.
