Shannen Doherty has joined her former costars for the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot. The actress shared the good news on social media not long after Fox unveiled the official title for the event series happening this summer.
In an Instagram post featuring a classic picture of the original cast, including the beloved and deceased Luke Perry, she confirmed the good news.
“Yes, it’s official. The real question is…. will we still be rocking those outfits. #bh90210,”, asked Doherty.
Ever since the reboot was announced back in March, fans have been wondering if Doherty would join, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling in the event series. There was speculation because of her history with a few cast members that she would opt out of the reboot.
However, thankfully she is on board. Doherty will not only play a heightened version of herself, as will the rest of the gang but the 47-year-old will also serve as an executive producer on the show.
The breast cancer survivor has not shared what changed her mind or convinced her to do the reboot. In March, US Weekly reported Doherty was reconsidering being involved with the show after Luke Perry’s shocking and sudden death.
“Luke was Shannen’s favorite in the cast She may participate now if they somehow pay homage to him,” a friend of the Charmed actress shared with the magazine.
A tribute to Perry will likely take place during the six-episode stint. The actors are mainly playing heightened versions of themselves, as they try to get the show revived. Since all of the original cast members were profoundly affected by Perry’s passing, it would be shocking if they did not honor him in some way.
BH90210, the official title given by Fox for the reunion series, has gained another cast member. Shannen Doherty, a.ka. Brenda Walsh is headed back to the famous zip code. Fans have to be prepared though, it is not a revival of the original series.
Tori Spelling referenced it to Curb Your Enthusiasm, with storylines being real and fictional. It is going to be an intriguing event that is for sure.
The cast of the FOX show has remained close ever since it ended. Even though there was turmoil between Doherty and several of her cast members, when she was diagnosed with cancer, they all rallied around to help her. It will be a treat for fans to see her back with the cast onscreen.
