Serena Williams revealed the fact that she almost died after giving birth to her daughter in 2017. The doctors found blood clots in her lungs.
Serena admitted that she had to choose an emergency C-section when she gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia.
She now revealed more about the situation, and she said that things were so severe that she almost died just a few days after giving birth.
She stated that ‘I almost died after giving birth to my daughter, but I consider myself fortunate. While I had quite an easy pregnancy, my daughter was born by emergency C-section after her heart rate dropped dramatically during contractions.’
She continued the horrible story saying that ‘The surgery went ok and before I knew it, Olympia was in my arms. It was the most amazing feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life. But what followed just 24 hours after giving birth were six days of uncertainty.’
Unfortunately, it seems that Serena was plagued with various health problems after she gave birth to her baby girl last year and these issues also included a pulmonary embolism.
This means that blood clots are formed in the lungs.
‘It began with a pulmonary embolism in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot. Because of my medical history with this problem, I live in fear of this situation. So, when I fell short of breath, I didn’t wait for a second to alert the nurses.’ she said.
‘More health complications came up that I am lucky to have survived. First, my C-section wound popped open, and I returned to surgery, where the doctors found a large hematoma, a swelling of clotted blood, in my abdomen’ Serena continued to say.
‘I had to undergo a procedure that prevents clots from traveling to my lungs.’
Serena also thanked her medical team for saving her life. Wow, what a dangerous experience she has been though, We are glad that it’s over and she is doing better these days.
