In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Selena Gomez revealed her struggle with depression and anxiety is a life-long battle, and she’s entirely ok with that. Celebrity Insider reported earlier that the “Wolves” singer announced she was aware of her mental health issues and was ok tending to them for the rest of her life.
During the same discussion with reporters from the acclaimed magazine, Selena revealed her life in the public eye was probably one of the primary causes of her issues, especially with social media.
On account of the constant pressure of having to deal with fame and all of its demands, Selena has to deal with the onslaught of comments from fans every day.
Sometimes, the star admits it’s hard to deal with. However, she’s willing to put in the work. Gomez has been an active supporter of mental health awareness in recent months, with her repeated therapeutic sessions at facilities being the focus of tabloid articles.
Either way, her voice on the issue matters. Gomez wields significant influence in our culture, especially over young girls, and she’s aware of that fact.
Additionally, she may not be alone. In the last couple of years, studies conducted by several prominent Universities concluded that constant social media use might be impacting our mental health more than initially thought.
The effects are even more pronounced on adolescent girls who continuously compare their bodies to those on Instagram and other social media networks.
Regarding her thoughts on the new form of communication, the pop-singer revealed it had given young people, herself included, a “false representation of what’s important.” Selena admitted that she often struggles with living up to her own, as well as society’s standards.
