An emotional Selena Gomez broke down in tears as she came forward to accept the Woman of the Year award at the 2017 Billboard Women in Music event on Thursday night.
The event was attended by many high-profile artists including Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Ciara, and Camila Cabello who were moved as Miss Gomez brought up her best friend “sister” and kidney donor Francia Raisa, on stage.
Justin Bieber’s girlfriend wept as she explained that the award belonged to Raisa who saved her life by giving her the biggest gift of all.
The 25-year-old entertainer from Texas told the audience as she wiped tears from her eyes: “To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award because she saved my life.”
Miss Gomez went on to say: “I would like to thank my amazing team and family because they stuck with me through some really hard times. I could not be more grateful for the position that I have been given in my career. I want people to know that I respect the platform that I have so deeply. I have never felt more proud to be a woman in this industry. I am so grateful for all the older women who have helped us up.”
Over the summer, when Gomez was still dating The Weeknd, she revealed that she underwent life-saving surgery.
She wrote a tear-jerking post on Instagram that read: “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
The diva is said to be living a real love story with Bieber and fans are hoping it will last.
