Is Sean Penn coming back to the screen anytime soon or is his acting career finally finished? Sean spoke with reporters from CBS this past weekend in an interview scheduled for publication next weekend, and during the discussion, Penn opened up about his career.
According to the legendary performer, he no longer has that passion, that flame. Penn has won two Academy Awards in the past, undoubtedly cementing himself in the collective memory of the entertainment world.
Despite his domination of the scene, Sean said he just isn’t into it anymore, not like he used to be. When speaking with Tracy Smith, he said, “I think that this had been true for some time.”
Penn said he could quickly make the case intellectually that acting is crucial, but he’s no longer so sure that he has the feelings to back up that argument any longer.
However, he’s “not in love with it anymore.” As for what he has been doing instead, Penn loves writing these days. In fact, he’s about to publish his first novel, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff.
Penn said a lot of people might hate his new book, but some may love it. It’s a metaphor for himself in some sense. As you may know, Penn has established a reputation for himself as a political activist.
However, not everyone is on board with celebrity self-importance. Perhaps most famously, during George Clooney’s acceptance speech, the actor said he was proud of the fact that Hollywood was “out of touch sometimes.”
South Park creators, Matt Parker and Trey Stone, famously made fun of his speech during one of their episodes. The episode featured George making a statement on one end of the town, while smog is overtaking the city, pollution created by George’s “smugness.”
