It’s not often that a TV series ends its run at the height of its popularity, but Schitt’s Creek has always done things differently. After six seasons, the Canadian sitcom is coming to an end, and star Catherine O’Hara (Moira Rose) says that the story “really wrapped up beautifully.”

O’Hara told Us Weekly at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that it was “hard to let go” of her Schitt’s Creek family, which includes co-stars Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose), Daniel Levy (David Rose), and Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose).

“I’m really spoiled,” said the 65-year-old comedy legend. “I was spoiled right at the very beginning with Second City and SCTV … it’s really hard to let go once you’ve had it at this point.”

O’Hara has been working with Eugene Levy for more than 45 years, and she was an obvious first choice for the role of Moira Rose, a former soap opera icon who ends up living in a motel with her husband and two adult children after the Rose family loses all of their money. Eugene and his son Daniel created the show, which started out as a small sitcom on Pop TV in the US before blowing up in popularity once it hit Netflix in Season 3.

O’Hara said that the scripts that were written and the opportunities her character was given for the sixth and final season - as well as how carefully Daniel wrote for all of the characters - really “wrapped up beautifully.” She explained that both Eugene and Daniel had the freedom to make the show what they wanted, and she’s not sure why more people don’t do that.

Before taking on the role of Moira, O’Hara worked with Tim Burton on Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas . She was also part of the SCTV alumni troop who gave the world the amazing Christopher Guest-directed mockumentaries Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind , and For Your Consideration , along with Eugene Levy.

But, she is probably most-recognized for her role in the 1990 holiday classic Home Alone , where she played Kevin McCallister’s (Macaulay Culkin) mom Kate who did everything she could to get home to her son.

The final episodes of Schitt’s Creek air Tuesday nights on Pop TV, and the first five seasons are available for streaming on Netflix.
