According to a report from Vanity Fair, Scarlett Johansson recently stated that she believes Woody Allen, in spite of the turn of public opinion against the popular director in Hollywood following the #MeToo movement.
For instance, Woody lost his distribution deal with Amazon after he made controversial comments about the #MeToo movement. Other actors and actresses who worked with him in the past, including Ellen Page, and Colin Firth, who were both in his movies, condemned him following their collaborations.
Moreover, Timothée Chalamet, as well as Rebecca Hall, donated the money they received from A Rainy Day In New York to various charities following the announcement that Amazon had refused to release Woody’s movie.
Followers of the story know that it all started with the allegations from Woody’s daughter, Dylan, from when she was a child. Dylan accused Woody of sexually molesting her when she was young, an allegation Allen has denied repeatedly in the past.
With that said, however, stars such as the aforementioned Scarlett Johansson are continuing to have his back, despite the public backlash against him. Speaking with reporters from The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson said she “loved Woody,” and believed he was innocent.
Scarlett said she’d work with Allen “anytime.” Furthermore, Johansson has had multiple conversations with Woody about the scandal. “He maintains his innocence, and I believe him,” Scarlett said to reporters from The Hollywood Reporter.
As it was previously reported, Farrow first brought up her story in a 2014 essay, however, in 2017, she began to talk about the allegations once again around the same time as the #MeToo movement began to increase in popularity and publicity.
In her opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times, Farrow asked why Allen had received a free pass in Hollywood, moreover, she claims it “broke her heart” when she saw actresses more than willing to work with him.
As fans of Scarlett know, she worked with Allen on not one but three films thus far, with perhaps Vicky Christina Barcelona being the most well-known.
