Sarah Rice from MTV’s The Challenge faced one of her most significant challenges ever, but in her personal life, not in her career. During a chat with Susie Meister on The Brain Candy, Rice revealed she had been pregnant once and intended to reveal the news to the world.
The Challenge star explained, “it was so hard to keep my mouth shut,” after finding out she was with child. However, she went in for an ultrasound at 12 weeks and found out her baby didn’t have a heartbeat.
She said, “I had a miscarriage, so that was really hard.” For the first time in her life, Sarah felt a profound, intense, and an excruciating sadness which she described using the word, “sorrow.”
It was a feeling, unlike anything she had experienced before during her time on this earth. One of the most difficult ideas to cope with was the knowledge that it had died around 9 weeks and she didn’t find out until the 12th week; her body had become a coffin for something which she romanticized.
Moreover, it was difficult to deal with because she hadn’t spoken to anyone about the potential of a miscarriage before. It was a real challenge. Rice explained, “they said my mind wasn’t convinced that I wasn’t pregnant, but my body was.”
Because of her loss, Rice had to undergo a special surgery which removes the contents of the uterus. It’s called a D & C, and she had never even known of it in the past.
It was a brand new thing, and for the worse. According to Rice, it’s a taboo to discuss these things, and that is something which needs to change. And while it was tragic, it was also a learning experience, one where her own way of healing had to be realized.
The reality star explained that everyone has to forge their own path to getting better. “You kind of have to find your own,” the Challenge star remarked.
