Now that ABC announced they will reboot their canceled series Roseanne with the upcoming show The Conners, it has been learned that Sara Gilbert will co-produce the series. Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner and is executive producer of the show The Talk executive produced nine episodes of the Roseanne revival and wrote one episode. Though ABC made the announcement that The Conners will air in the fall 2018, lineup, Sara Gilbert hasn’t tweeted on her official account since May 29, 2018, when Roseanne made comments that many have deemed racist.
The decision to move ahead with a Roseanne spin-off has been controversial. Roseanne Barr will have nothing to do with the series and that has led many of her supporters to announce they won’t watch the show. That means that Sara Gilbert will have to work with the writers to deliver a show that will reach across party lines, in order to bring in the numbers Roseanne did.
Gilbert has already proven herself one of Hollywood’s power players. She has won three Daytime Emmy awards for Outstanding Talk Show host and considering she’s been up against the likes of Kelly Ripa, Wendy Williams and the cast of The View, that’s an impressive win.
But will Sara Gilbert be able to reach across the aisle and put her hand on the pulse of America and convert that into a ratings’ win?
This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

Exactly what issues The Conners will face are unclear. ABC did release a statement discussing the show’s direction.
“The Conners” (working title), a spinoff of the groundbreaking family comedy Roseanne has been greenlit to series with an order of 10 episodes for fall 2018. After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.
This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”
Is it possible that Roseanne’s character will be killed off the show? Though the statement didn’t reveal Roseanne’s exact fate, it does say there was a “sudden turn of events” that changes the struggles the family faces.
What do you think about Sara Gilbert at the helm of the reboot The Conners? Do you believe the show will be successful?
