The athlete has definitely not been having the best of weeks. Ryan Lochte, 34, was involved in a car crash earlier this week, ET reports. But that is not even all as the scary accident took place only a day before it was confirmed that the swimmer had decided to seek professional help for his alcohol problems.
According to one police report obtained by the same news outlet, Lochte rear-ended another vehicle just a few hours after he had landed in Florida.
The person driving the other car was injured and rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
It has to be noted, however, that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, the athlete received a citation for careless driving and there are no mentions of him getting hurt as well.
TMZ also reports that on the same day, at 3 A.M., the police were called to the hotel he was staying, after he allegedly kicked in his room’s door while extremely intoxicated but he was not arrested.
Following the incidents, yesterday, his agent, Jeff Ostrow, talked to ET, stating that: ‘Ryan’s been battling alcohol addiction for many years and unfortunately it’s become a destructive routine for him. He’s acknowledged he needs professional assistance to overcome this problem and he will be getting help immediately.’
He went on to share that ‘Ryan knows that conquering this disease is a must for him in order to avoid making future poor decisions, in order to be the best husband and best father that he can be, as well as if he wants to achieve his goal of returning to dominance in the pool in his 5th Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.’
