Another woman has come forward to accuse Russell Simmons of sexual misconduct, except this one has a hefty price tag of $5 million attached to it.
However, as Matt Damon once said during an interview on the Today Show, a lawsuit with a large price at the beginning is often meant to settle outside of court for a much smaller sum.
Either way, Russell is finding himself in serious trouble after Jennifer Jarosik, 37, accused Simmons of rape after she agreed to have him finance her film as well as produce it.
The Blast was the first organization to publish the details of the suit. Simmons, in response, said that the claim was “absolutely untrue.”
In a statement made by Eric Rose, Russell’s attorney, both parties are decrying the allegations as “horrific.” He said, “I look forward to having my day in court” where he can use the judicial system’s channels to defend himself against the deleterious accusations.
Russell, through his lawyer, said “justice will be done” and the world will know the “full truth.” According to the lawsuit, the pair met 12 years ago, in 2006, and it was then where Simmons befriended her, for what she thought at the time, was an attempt to help finance her movie.
Today, I begin to properly defend myself. I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges. Today, I will focus on “The Original Sin” (Keri Claussen), the claim that created this insane pile on of my #MeToo. Stay tuned! We’ll share information today… And tomorrow the case of Jenny Lumet. My intention is not to diminish the #MeToo movement in anyway, but instead hold my accusers accountable. #NotMe Again, this is not a movement against or even in conjunction with #Metoo . It’s just a statement about my innocence.
Simmons allegedly asked her to come to his house ten years later and upon her arrival was greeted by Simmons who propositioned her to have sex only to be turned down. However, the Def Jam Records founder allegedly didn’t take “no” for an answer and proceeded to rape her.
She said, “Simmons got aggressive,” “hit her hard,” and “pounced on her” while she was in a state of shock and fear. As a result of the supposed altercation, Jarosik claims she has “severe and permanent emotional” distress.
Jennifer is asking the jury trial for a whopping $5 million in damages. In a statement to the court, Jarosik and her lawyer said it’s time for the hip-hop community to change after years of discriminating against women.
