Perhaps you should reconsider your Google searches on the Orange Is The New Black star, Ruby Rose. The internet security company, McAfee, revealed earlier in the week that Ms. Rose is currently the most dangerous person to look up in search engines in 2018.
The reason is that search results often go to shady websites with malicious intentions. Last year, Avril Lavigne was one of the most dangerous stars to search, partly due to the conspiracy theories surrounding her livelihood which became something of a meme over the years.
Either way, Rose, who recently took on the titular role as Batwoman for CW, took the number one spot. The next person on the list is the reality television star, Kristin Cavallari.
In third place is Marion Cotillard. Coincidentally, all three of the top stars are all women. Additionally, the Kardashians sisters follow close behind with Kourtney at number 7 and Kim at number 19.
Gary Davis, the chief consumer security executive at the company, said in a statement earlier that hackers often rely on internet users’ curiosity regarding specific celebrities.
Davis wrote in his report, asking for consumers to be more careful in terms of what websites they visit. Perhaps, one should even install an extension in their browser to thwart malicious attacks.
Or, invest in McAfee’s security system. As the world becomes increasingly connected, undoubtedly, criminals will take on to the cyber world as a means of obtaining personal information like personal ID cards and credit cards.
Last year, the British health services, NHS, was the target of cyber attackers. Later on, NHS revealed that it was because they failed to update their system fast enough.
The lesson from all of this is for consumers to make sure they install system updates whenever prompted. Developers often update their platforms for the sake of working out bugs and ensuring security.
